Gisson, an artist whose work is Impressionistic in nature, is not the man most people expect him to be. He is often said to be a Frenchman born in 1910 who has been dead since around 1975. All of these common beliefs are false. Gisson was actually born to Norwegian-American parents in 1928 as Anders Gisson. His grandparents migrated to the United States around the Summer of 1899, and his family has remained here ever since, residing in Brooklyn, New York.
Gisson began drawing and painting at a very early age, and has never really put aside his love for making art. During World War II, he enlisted himself in the Army Core of Engineers, aiding in the reconstruction of airfields and roadways. Because of his work in the Army, Gisson traveled rather extensively through Japan and Paris, painting all the while. His name, despite the often false information associated with it, has become a household name all over the world when speaking of American Impressionism.
